Nafplion

Nafplion is the nearest city. A picturesque town that was the capital of modern Greece until 1834 and therefore has some extra nice houses and squares. The old town center has a fancy marble-paved square and narrow alleys with both simple taverns and shops with the highest quality Italian ice cream. Along the harbor promenade are cafes and restaurants with views of the luxury boats that are moored. Athenians like to go here during the weekends, when it only takes a couple of hours by car. Taxi from Lefkakia to central Nafplion costs 7-8€.

Palamidi Castle at Nafplion

Above the palatial houses at Syntagma Square in Nafplion, you can see the Palamidi Castle, built by the Venetians in the early 18th century. There are 1,000 strenuous steps to get there. The reward is an unparalleled view of the city and the coast. The castle is also worth a walk around. There is everything from small churches to terrifying dungeons.

The Archaeological Museum

The palace at Syntagma is the most beautiful building in the place and it is where the archaeological museum is located. Don’t just look from the outside. The exhibition contains up to 5,000-year-old urns, gold jewelry, a bronze armor and glass from the time before the birth of Christ. Quite large and very interesting.
